About Us

image

Take One Action is Scotland’s social action cinema project (“People and movies that are changing the world”). The project exists to celebrate, explore and critique the intersect between cinema and the global and environmental justice movement in the UK and across the world.

imageWe deliver accessible year-round outreach to new audiences, with supporting fringe events, to inspire active citizenship on global issues where systemic injustice is visible. In our first year (2008-9) we welcomed more than 5000 people into screenings and workshops. We also help to initiate conversations and experiments between filmmakers, distributors, cinemas, civil society and audiences to develop their joint capacity in contributing to dialogue and social change. Our annual festival (17th-26th September 2009) showcases the year’s most creative and urgent social action feature films, predominantly documentary. Most of the programme takes place in Edinburgh, but in 2009 a number of screenings and events will be in Glasgow for the first time.

Take One Action’s patrons are the Palme D’Or winners Ken Loach and Paul Laverty. We are supported by Scottish Screen/The National Lottery, as well as a number of leading UK campaigning organisations concerned with advocacy from a global perspective. Our cinema partner is Filmhouse (home to Edinburgh International Film Festival), with programming also at the Glasgow Film Theatre. Take One Action is partnered by the World Development Movement and is governed as a project of The World Development Movement Trust, registered charity no. 1064066. You can view details of all our 2009 partners and supporters here.
