Screening Guidelines

All films listed in this database are the property of their owners, and most of the films we list will have been produced by small companies, who rely on paying audiences so they can continue to make great independent films.

Private viewing
Where available, you may purchase DVD copies via third-party websites for private home use or for research. These should not be screened to a public audience without permission from the owner (it doesn’t matter if you are showing the film for free).

Public screenings
Wherever possible we have listed the contact of the distributor/owner on the film details page. Owners may grant permission for public screenings of their films, and they may wish to charge a fee for this - ranging from £0 to £1000 for one or more screenings. Please bear in mind that film ownership and distribution rights can be complicated. We advise that you:

1) Get started early: leave at least 2-3 months before your planned event to make contact and obtain permissions. Make contact by as many different means as possible until you get through to the right person
2) Be clear about the context you will screen the film in. When will you show it? How many people will attend? Will you charge people money to come? What budget do you have?
