The 2014 Take One Action Film Festival Audience Award winner has been announced as “The Revolutionary Optimists” directed by Nicole Newnham & Maren Grainger-Monsen.

The films tells the story of Amlan Ganguly, a genial lawyer who works as a community educator in the slums of Kolkata, facing down child labour, early marriage and endemic poverty with the unfailing belief that children must meaningfully participate in the decisions and factors that affect their lives.

Thanking Take One Action audiences for the recognition of the award, Amlan said: “We hope Take One Action audiences will stay with us in solidarity, not just of money, but of encouragement and connection and championing of the existence of children everywhere not as second-class citizens, but as citizens.”
