OUR VALUES, GOVERNANCE AND PROGRAMMING ARE GUIDED BY THE FOLLOWING BROAD ARTICULATION OF “ISSUES OF GLOBAL CONCERN”.

Take One Action’s film programme is underpinned by creative and journalistic excellence, advanced by the Artistic Director in dialogue with colleagues, partners, a volunteer programming team and the board of directors.

We will not showcase work that is not creatively and/or journalistically strong and coherent – unless it otherwise has exceptional empowerment value. Film reviewing, selection, event planning, delivery, impact and evaluation are governed by the TOA Operations Manual.

Our team stays abreast of diverse international film content and debates about cinema and journalism. We prioritise unseen documentary, drama and comedy from around the world, as well as curating new releases, cult films and retrospectives which offer audiences unique exposure/windows to global challenges and transformation.

We encourage partners and event contributors who are not primarily versed in film culture to connect with and respond to a film’s story/style/narrative first, as this provides the most respectful, accessible and effective bridge to exploring the issues raised by a film with new audiences.

We also encourage partners to take programming risks, knowing that audiences can engage with issues as positively and sometimes more effectively in response to controversial content, as to content which is mainstream or deemed politically safe.
