OUR VALUES, GOVERNANCE AND PROGRAMMING ARE GUIDED BY THE FOLLOWING BROAD ARTICULATION OF “PARTICIPATION”.

Our events will be as inclusive and participatory as possible. At headquarters, we will make use of a range of locations, partnerships, venues and styles of content to engage diverse groups of people, and we will communicate clearly.

We seek to involve partners and filmmakers and where possible audiences and the subject communities of the films we select at every stage of the planning, presentation and evaluation of events, monitoring and feeding back to audiences stories of engagement, empowerment, actions taken and their impact (including on inequalities).

We will innovate to ensure that passivity in the viewing experience is subtly but effectively challenged, as groundwork for empowering people to be more active global citizens beyond the cinema. For example, we will always endeavour to give audiences the opportunity to dialogue with each other and with experts at events; and where appropriate we will make use of more creative or interventionist techniques such bike-powered cinema; interrupting films to debate the direction of a narrative; or introducing games that get audiences making connections.

At an organisational level, all of our activities are governed by robust Equal Opportunities Policy.  This includes open advertisement for the recruitment of board members, staff and volunteers.
