A Bridge between Starshine and Clay: Shorts Programme
This programme of short films was specially curated by Take One Action New Promoter Tanatsei Gambura. From Brazil, South Africa and South Korea, these three shorts explore the female body (constantly under scrutiny, subject to structural violence…) and celebrate the female gaze.
Carne (Flesh) (dir. Camila Kater, Spain / Brazil, 2019, 12′)
Portuguese
Five women, each at a different stage of their life, share experiences about their relationships to their bodies and how others perceive them in this powerfully intimate mixed-media animated documentary.
Cause of Death (dir. Jyoti Mistry, South Africa / Austria, 2020, 19′)
English
Through archival film footage, animation and spoken word poetry, an experience of structural violence against women is exposed.
Jesa (dir. Kyungwon Song, USA / South Korea, 2019, 6′)
Korean
A sweet and salty take on family, food, and the patriarchy.
Content notes:
Cause of Death contains depictions of violence and bodily harm and references to gender-based violence. Carne contains discussions of fatphobia, transphobia, homophobia and misogyny.
