Film Synopsis: Ãgawaraitá: Amazonian Stories

Director: Priscila Tapajowara | Countries of production: Brazil | Year: 2021 | Length: 39 min
Language: Portuguese with English subtitles | Age: 8+ years

In Ãgawaraitá: Amazonian Stories, filmmaker Priscila Tapajowara weaves together documentary and mythology in two gentle portraits of indigenous and riverine people from the Amazon.

The films – Nancy (16min) and Mother of the Water (23min) – pay tribute to the role of spirituality in the fight for land rights in the face of state violence and the destruction of indigenous land. The production was made by Nato Audiovisual, an indigenous filmmaking collective, with an Amazonian team.

Beyond the Screen

We are excited to welcome Priscila Tapajowara in conversation after the screening to discuss the filmmaking process and the significance of storytelling at the intersection of myth, memory, ancestral tradition, and climate change.

Films runtime: 39min
Q&A runtime: 30min
