Film Synopsis: Together We Grow

Director: Jordan Osmond | Countries of production: New Zealand | Year: 2022 | Length: 39 min
Language: English with English subtitles | Age: 12+ years

A local community in New Zealand come together to tackle food insecurity and social isolation.

What do you get when you combine a community cafe, a community grocer and a community bike works? Plus a repair cafe, a sewing workshop, garden sharing, and a honey-making enterprise? Common Unity! A truly wonderful example of the importance of the community in tackling issues like social isolation and food insecurity. And in building the social connections and social relationships so important to health and life.

In Together We Grow we get to know a group of community members doing the important work of caring for others and building community resilience. It’s a community hub of learning, support, creativity, joy, sharing and shared interest, all in one place.

Screening as part of #TOAFF25

Beyond the Screen

Join us for a film screening, talks and delicious food all focussed around the humble bean, food justice, climate and neighbourhood and the benefits of growing, cooking and eating together as a community. We’ll watch New Zealand film Together We Grow as well as a short film from the Beans on Screen local research project which has taken place here in Easterhouse over the summer, and also hear from Nourish about their exciting Public Diners pilot.

Booking Information

To make our events more accessible, we operate a sliding scale ticket policy (thanks to SQIFF for leading the way) across all our venues. Choose what to pay based on your personal circumstances, from £0-20. All we ask is that you are honest with us so that we can continue offering this flexibility to those who need it most. When you pay a higher price for a ticket, you help subsidise a ticket for somebody on a lower income.

Suggested new sliding scale ticketing: £0 I find it difficult to meet everyday costs £5 I can meet everyday qcosts but sometimes find it hard to do so £10 I can meet everyday costs £15 I can comfortably meet everyday costs and have savings too £20 I would like to pay for a solidarity ticket to subsidise the cost of those who cannot pay for a ticket
