Film Synopsis: Good Things Await

Director: Phie Ambo | Countries of production: Denmark, Iceland | Year: 2014 | Length: 95 min
Language: Danish with English subtitles | Age: 15+ years

When farming and nature go hand in hand: a beautiful, lyrical account of an elderly Danish farmer’s bio-dynamic approach to agriculture, nutrition and the cosmos.

Concerns over climate change, animal welfare and sustainable food production form a pressing backdrop to this poetic portrait of an octogenarian on a mission. Niels Stokholm, a stubborn, hard-working and articulate proponent of bio-dynamic agriculture, founded his farm Thorshojgaard 40 years ago, with the aim of preserving the ancient Danish Red breed of cattle and growing his products in harmony with the universe. But while he now supplies some of Denmark’s top restaurants, his unusual methods have fallen foul of the country’s agricultural authorities.

Filmed over the course of four seasons, the film captures the beauty and harshness of life on the farm. Despite the difficulties Thorshojgaard faces, Good Things Await offers a hopeful pointer towards viable alternatives to intensive farming.
