Film Synopsis: Inventing Tomorrow

Director: Laura Nix | Countries of production: United States | Year: 2018 | Length: 87 min
Language: English, Indonesian, Spanish with English subtitles | Age: 8+ years

Communities across the world are bearing the brunt of climate chaos and environmental degradation. Change is desperately needed, but how do such communities adapt to existing problems? In Inventing Tomorrow, hope takes the form of a group of young students, from Indonesia, India, Mexico and Hawaii, as they prepare for ISEF, the world’s largest high-school science competition.

Motivated by the issues and problems they’ve witnessed in their own communities, these students dream up ingenious solutions to confront the world’s environmental threats. They steel themselves to present their work while navigating the tricky hurdles and insecurities that mark adolescence.

Director Laura Nix captures her protagonists’ hopes and ambitions with love and humour to present a rousing portrait of an engaged generation determined to place climate justice, science and action at the heart of our global discourse.
