La Llorona + filmmaker Q&A
Film Synopsis: La Llorona
A stunning piece of political horror and magical realism, La Llorona reimagines the weeping woman as an avenger for the crimes committed against Indigenous peoples in Guatemala.
A retired military general accused of genocide against the Mayan peoples has his conviction overturned by the high court. Crowds congregate outside his family’s mansion in mass protest, trapping them inside. In this claustrophobic setting, the arrival of a young Kaqchikel woman as the family’s new housekeeper triggers a series of supernatural events – forcing them to confront the crimes of their patriarch and a bloody national past.
