Theater of Life
Film Synopsis: Theater of Life
What is the meaning of home for those who don’t have one – and can high-end gastronomy help meet the needs of homeless people?
Discover the inside story of how 60 of the world’s most renowned chefs came together to offer a soup kitchen with a difference, cooking with food waste from Expo2015 in Milan.
Massimo Bottura, widely regarded as one of the best chefs in the world, set up the Refettorio as a beautifully designed space offering 80 people a night the opportunity to dine with dignity.
How this high-profile initiative fared against the complex realities of homelessness and social inequality is explored through revealing interviews with the chefs and the diners, offering a candid exploration of the cultural, social and spiritual value of the nourishment we can offer one another.
PLAY TRAILERBeyond the Screen

BREAK BREAD WITH US
The Grassmarket Community Project is one of Edinburgh’s network of voluntary agencies that together provide free meals daily for our most vulnerable and destitute citizens, much of this being from ‘surplus’ food. Join us before the screening to take part in this unique community dinner by booking the Meal & Film ticket. We encourage all those who can do so, to either pay a donation, which will go toward the Grassmarket Community Project, or bring a dish along to the dinner (any home-made dish must be vegetarian; non-vegetarian food must be brought unopened).
