Mother of two, Jane, lives and works in Kawangware area of Nairobi, Kenya. Jane works as a trader, selling handicrafts she has made. In her spare time she trains other women on their basic rights and skills for running small businesses. The women’s group, called the Shining Mothers, uses their collective voice to demand that local authorities better protect and support their small businesses. The Shining Mothers are doing their bit to demand an economy that works for everyone, not just the few.

 

This campaign film was produced by Oxfam as part of their Even it Up campaign. 8 billionaires currently own the same wealth as the poorest 3.6 billion people. The super-rich have done very well out of an economic system that favors the few and leaves too many others behind. It doesn’t have to be this way. People like Jane live with the realities of inequality everyday. Jane is campaigning to fight inequality. Join her to demand an economy that works for everyone, not just the few.
