Position Among the Stars is the third instalment of the award-winning film series by Leonard Retel Helmrich that follows an Indonesian family from the slums of Jakarta.

Through the eyes of grandmother Rumidjah, a poor Christian woman, we see the economical changing society of Indonesia and the influence of globalisation reflected in the life of her juvenile granddaughter Tari and her sons Bakti and Dwi.

Filming in single shots and often with little or no dialogue, Helmrich establishes the Indonesian Sjamsuddin family as a microcosm in which you can recognise the most important issues of life in Indonesia: corruption, conflict between religions, gambling addiction, the generation gap and the growing difference between poor and rich.
